Powerpoint hangs if not connected

When I open one particular presentation, Powerpoint tries to access the
network, and it hangs if the computer is not connected. I know of no
reason for it to be trying to access the network. There shouldn't be
anything on any other computer in the office or on the Internet that it
needs to run the presentation.

Anyone know what causes this behavior or how to stop it?

You may have copied an image or object from the web and then pasted it in
your presentation. This can often result in the symptom you describe.

Install a printer locally (not network). Remove the physical printer after
install, but leave all the drivers.

PowerPoint does not play well with networks.

See if this does the trick

Thanks for the diagnosis, Sonia. Any thoughts as to a cure? Powerpoint
appears to be frustratingly unwilling to give me any details about
what's inside this object.

If you know which object is causing the problem, you can do a cut and paste
it into an image editor and save it as a PNG file. Then do an Insert >
Picture > Picture from File.
