Powerpoint downloads in vist

Odd question: We have a remote directory in which powerpoint .ppt files are
kept for download by others. Mac users and XP users are able to download
fine, but Vista users find that the download comes through as a zip file
which, when extracted, contains the materials for the powerpoint, but not the
file itself.

Is this effect shared by anyone? Is there a solution?

This seems to be an effect of the mime setting of the server not being
specific enough for pptx files and IE8 using the mime setting (and some
analysis of the file itself) not the file extension to determine the type of
file being downloaded.

pptx, docx files are in fact zip files. If the server cannot be accessed to
update the mime settings -- the work around solution I have used is just to
rename the zip file to pptx after download.
