Hi John,
PowerPoint slide show overrides screen saver for obvious reasons. However,
there is one situation where we cannot override the screen saver setting.
When using a Group Policy to enforce Windows 2000/XP Clients to Password
Protect their screen savers and automatically lock their workstations after
a certain
amount of minutes, the client systems will lock (launch password protected
screen saver) even if a slide show is running.
You can check out the Windows Resource kit, TechNet and/or MSDN for
instructions on how to use Windows Group Policies.
Of course, if you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly there
should be some additional screen save control within PowerPoint, don't
