PowerPoint and Office Basic Edition

I'm trying to install PowerPoint 2003 onto Office Basic
Edition 2003. The installation program claims it can't
find a valid version of Office, even when I put the CD
for it into the CD reader.

Is there something missing from Basic Edition that won't
let PowerPoint install? Please don't tell me I have to
upgrade my Office Edition first before I can add
PowerPoint to it!

To use a PowerPoint 2003 upgrade you need to have a previous version of
PowerPoint (97, 2000, or 2002). Since PowerPoint is not included in Office
Basic Edition 2003 (only includes Excel, Outlook and Word), the installation
program is telling you that it can't locate a qualifying version of PowerPoint.
If you had one of the following, the upgrade would work:

1. PowerPoint 2002, 2000, or 97
2. Microsoft Office XP, 2000, or 97

One solution might be to purchase a full version of PowerPoint 2002, 2000, or 97
on eBay. That will qualify you and you'll be able to install the PowerPoint
2003 upgrade that you have already purchased. Be sure that you do purchase the
*full* version of PowerPoint.
