PowerPoint 97 File Size

When I create a presentation in PowerPoint 2002 and then save it as PowerPoint 97, the file size increases from 338 KB to 7.37 MB. Is there a way to get around this?

You actually saved it in PowerPoint 95 format and PowerPoint 95 didn't
compress presentations. There is no need to "down-save" for PowerPoint 97
or 2000. They both use the same file format as PowerPoint 2002 and 2003.
Resave your file to a new name and this time just select Presentation(*.ppt)
and the File Type.

Thanks, Sonia. the problem I have is that my audience uses 97 and they can't play presentations saved as 2003.

They can't open it and play it? Or is it that your presentation doesn't
work the way you created it? Two different things. PowerPoint 2003
presentations can be opened in PowerPoint 97. However, the animations and
transitions and other stuff that is new to PowerPoint 2003 isn't supported
by PowerPoint 97, so it will be ignored. There is NO way to save it to a
different format so that PowerPoint 97 will support those features.

When developing in PowerPoint 2003 you can first go to Tools > Options >
Edit and disable the new features. That pretty much means that you forfeit
the new features and only use features that PowerPoint 97 supports.

In any case, saving the presentation in PowerPoint 95 will not get you where
you want to go and will only result in a huge uncompressed file.
