Powerpoint 2007 file changes not saving

RISKYM

Hi,
I have several machines running 2007 and all but one work fine. One machine
(Vista Ultimate) is running Powerpoint 2007 which is set in compatibility
mode. If an existing file is opened and changed and the save button clicked
the file appears to save (hourglass) but it doesn't. The timestamp does not
change and the files changes are not saved. Save As works OK but it not a
great work-around. Also, sometimes having done a 'save-as' if the app is
closed and file double clicked then the app opens but the file reports as
being 'read only' open by the current user. It's as though the file save
hasn't completed even though the application is closed.
Help ...

Hi,

Bizarre. In case the program is mucked up, could you try Microsoft Office
button| PowerPoint Options| Resources tab and run Microsoft Office
Diagnostics. Do you get any report back or does that fix it?

Glen,

Thanks for the quick response. I'll give this a try and let you know whait
is reported.

I also forgot to mention that I did a repair (which didn't make any
difference) then did a remove and re-install of Powerpoint.

Are you working on a network? If so, try to save the file on your local
harddrive. Are the results better there? Even if you change things and
repeat saving? Then it might not be a PowerPoint problem but a network
problem and you should contact your network administrator about that.

Best regards,
Ute

Glen,

I finally managed to get onto the machine and ran the diagnostics. No
problems were found. I also checked that all of the latest patches had been
applied to both O/S and Office.

I had some time so had a play with the application. New files are fine; I
can create change, save, open, change, save etc. and all works as expected.
It only seems to be a problem with some files which were probably created
with PP 2003 - but I can't be certain. Someone else suggested that it may be
related to templates that were used in 2003.

Still very puzzling ....

Mark

Simon,

Thanks for the response. It makes no difference where the files are saved -
I tried that. I am the administrator of the network so can be sure that the
network is performing as expected and permissions etc. are correct.

Thanks,

Mark

Unfortunately I've just posted a similar problem and then found this thread.

Any luck getting to the bottom of this?! We are also experiencing the same
problem. Brand new network install, new PCs, all Vista all Office 07, have
also changed the PC that the user is working on just to confirm it wasnt the
particular PC but no change. I think you may be right regarding it being a
PPT 2003 issue.
