I'm not sure how may previous versions each Mac version will open.

If you happen to have PowerPoint 98 and can install it under Classic, it may
open PPT4 files. For that matter, PPT 2001 offers to *save* as PowerPoint 4,
so perhaps it'll open PPT4 files as well.
