powermax software problems

adrian

i seem to be having a problem getting the powermax software to work. when i
boot the disk it just hangs on a blank screen after loading the powermax
software.

i have a msi kt600 board with on board via sata controller, i also have a
silicon image sata controller card plugged in.

tried booting with the on board sata disable and the silicon image sata
controller removed, still the same result.

the ibm and segate software work, the drive fails the quick test on both.

pity maxtor insist on me running powermax since i know the drive is on its
last legs.

heres what happend, tried copying a large file to the hd, my pc hung.

rebooted but windows wouldnt startup with that hd plugged in.

plugged it back in adn ran ibm dft it failed the quick test.

tried to copy the contents of the hd to another using a disk clone tool
(forgot its name) left it running overnight hadnt got far when i got up
12hrs later due to the sheer number of bad sectors.

only thing left is to take the hd and my sata controller to my mates house
and see if i can get the powermax software woring on his.

since the hd is only about 4 months old could it have been handled roughly
before i got it?

if anybody has any suggestions on how to get powermax working im all ears.

Perhaps try obtaining a different version of Powermax. I seem to
remember some versions hanging with particular hardware configurations,
while others do not.

I'd insist on a replacement drive and if they try playing silly
buggers, threaten them with the law if they dont replace it.

That should put a bomb under those clowns.

Cant get to the files unless I make myself spyware-complient
(javascript enabled)
Wonder why ??

Although it's not good programming practice, many web pages are
dependent on JavaScript. Just use a decent browser (read: not IE) and
you will greatly decrease your susceptibility to spyware. (I'm a
Firefox fan myself)

Just make sure you turn Java off, there's at least one piece of
spyware that installs a tracking applet. Do a search on redsheriff or
imrworldwide for details.
