Power Supply question

My computer has been acting up every so often and sometimes the video
would crap out and have to be rebooted after giving it some time to cool
down.

I replaced the motherboard with an identical board and still got video
drop out so I replaced the video card.
The new video card came with a program called Smart Doctor. That program
complains that the AGP voltage is low.

So I checked Motherboard Monitor 5. Been a long time since I even looked
at that. I see my -12 volt is only - 2.something and my -5 volt is only
- 1.something!!!

I can readily see that that would cause big problems ... yet the
computer is running just fine.

Does nothing or very little use those negative voltages?

I'm wondering how to tell if MBM is giving me good readings. Could the
sensors be faulty? I hate to replace the power supply if it isn't bad.
It is from PC Power and Cooling and cost me a bundle when I built this
thing almost 4 years ago.

It's hard to believe the computer would even keep running with bad
voltages like that.

Sometimes there can be false readings due to a number of things. But if you
really wanna go techie... I would buy a cheap PS and install it into the
system just to see. PS aren't really that much these days.

Could a prblem where the AGP slot is not set for 4X AGP. Check to see what
it can be set to in the BIOS.

============
I just installed a brand new 500 watt power supply and I'm getting the
same symptoms.

I now have a new motherboard, new video card, and new power supply and
it is still telling me my -12 and -5 voltages are extremely low. Video
still blanking out when AGP voltage drops too low, then it comes back (
most of the time ).
