Power Supply noise

Sometimes my power supply makes a noise that vibrates the tower case.
Should I buy another power supply? I have a P4 with XP Home SP2.

Thank you;
David

If it is the power supply, and you want the noise to go away, then yes,
replacing it would be the logical solution.

Most of the time, the power supply fan would cause the vibration
noise. I would definitely consider getting another power supply.

The fan in the power supply can be changed easy enough.

Is it the fan?
Or is the unit itself not fixed tightly in the case?
You do not say!

Anttioch:

It is fixed tightly. When I turn on the heater at another side of the room,
it starts. I can put my hand on top of the tower and the noise is quieter.

Some power supplies have dual speed fans...
and spin faster with higher temperature.

so when you turn the heater on...
that could bring the heat up enough to cause the higher fan speed

These fans do not just "clip in." They are usually soldered onto a
PCB board inside. If you are not careful, you can get a nasty zip
from a capacitor.

What OS you have has NOTHING to do with the PHYSICAL problem in the
PS. Your question is out of place here.

Ask elsewhere

seems to me that your fan is going bad, now for an expert i would suggest
changing your fan to save money, but since you are probably not one, i would
say yes change the power supply since there is high voltage in there so
opening the power supply would be dangerous if you aren't carefull ;-)

Just ignore the stupid troll. He has dellusions of being the newsgroup
administrator. He is, in fact, of NoConsequence, and has never contributed
anything of value.
