Only WAVs can be embedded.

For MP3s, you have to convert them to a WAV-like file to fool PPT.

What sound file type are you working with? And which version of PPT?
 
Go to insert then on the far right side click on sound. It will bring up a
search box click on the sound file you want to insert.
