I installed the 2007 power point viewer in my Vista system. However, it
doesn't seem to automatically open attached files received in e-mail in power
point format. First, I have to manually open power point & then insert the
name of the file to be opened and click open. I seem to recall that these
functions were automatic in Windows XP. Is there any way this function can be
done automatically in Vista?

Thanks.............I actually did try the fix you suggested. It does enable
me to open PP files now but I have to do it manually with lots of clicks.
Guess what I'm missing is a way for the PC to open them on one click upon
receipt. regards.................

Same issue here (although I haven't tried the fix). The workaround for me is
to open the email, then drag the file onto my desktop, where I then click
and view. I may go check out that fix, unless you tell me that my workaround
is easier than the fix.

Based upon our problem it looks like certain file formats cannot simply be
"opened" in Vista. So far, with me, it's Power Point & Word (not installed in
my system). I have to use the Microsoft "viewer" for each type, involving a
tedious manual process. The PP "fix" discussed earlier seems to merely have
made it possible to open the Power Point files if the viewer is used. I'm
hoping that this problem will be addressed in a Vista service pack, which
can't come too soon.

For now, I think I'll create a file for downloaded Power Point & Word files
which I can "easily" find using the appropriate viewer & then open. This will
also involve housekeeping chores as the files will be on the hard drive
taking up space.

Your method of opening PP files seems just as efficient as mine. Let's hope
that MS is on this one for a future fix.
