Power Outage & AD

Hello

I have a small problem & would appreciate your input.

We have a network consisting of 4 DC's, 2 physical sites
with a 10mb link, but only 1 logical AD site. Site A has 3
DC's, and site B has 1 DC.

In the server room at site A, we are due to have a power
outage on Tuesday next for a period of no more than 8
hours. This will leave us with only 1 DC online for this
period. This DC is at the opposite end of the link.

My question is, if I gracefully shut down all 3 DC's at
site A for this period, will anything nasty happen to
these machines when brought back online, my main concern
is AD replication.

The alternative to this is to carry these DC's 100 yards
into a room where power and network connectivity can be
maintained. For obvious reasons I wish to avoid this if
possible.

Your advice would be much appreciated.

Paul

8 hours should not be a problem.

Thanks for the input. What length of time would start to
create problems for us?

Paul-

60 - 90 days is when it gets problematic. The exact number just slipped my
mind for some reason, tombstone lifetime is either 60 days or 90 days.

So, apart from a shedload of errors in the event log on
the remaining server, I understand nothing nasty will
happen.

Many thanks for all replies.

The default is 60, but of course if you wanted to change that you could.

There's a group policy setting to do it.

You can? How?
Only ways I know of are AD tools such as LDP, ADSIEdit, etc.
Here's an article that shows you where the value is:
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...port/kb/articles/Q216/9/93.ASP&NoWebContent=1

Again Paul I'd recommend you not do this unless you have good reason to and
really know that you absolutely need to.
