Power Options Issue

Under the Advanced tab on Power Options Properties, the system lets you
specify what to do when closing the lid of the laptop and/or when pressing
the Power Off button. Unfortunately, this setting is only good for one
resume after standby. It then reverts back to "Do nothing". I believe this
is related to Windows XP Pro Power Management and causes my system a very
slow resume from standby [up to two minutes]. If you have any suggestion on
how to troubleshoot this issue, I would really appreciate it.

The only thing I can suggest is to not close the lid before powering off
and stay away from using standby. I have yet to see a modern laptop that
comes out of standby nicely, if it ever does at all.
