Bill, see my comments inline:
Malke,
If I have lost the "welcome screen" and it is not a result of the
Service
pack 2 or another update, what is the problem?
What do you get instead? What do you want to get? Are you now having to
login? If so, do:
Start>Run control userpasswords2 [enter]
Uncheck the box that says "users must enter a user name and
password...". If you want XP to automatically open in one particular
account instead of presenting you with the Welcome Screen and various
account icons, you can set this option there.
The other problem IS a DOS screen message, it is not in Windows. I
have a blank background with a blue box with the error message within.
Shutting down adn rebooting gets me back up an running.
I do plan on consulting another service but thought I could get some
good information here. Thanks for you response.
Anyont else out there got any ideas?
Bill
When *exactly* in the bootup process does this error occur? If occurs
when you first start the machine and *before* Windows loads, that is
not DOS. That is a message from your computer's BIOS indicating a
hardware problem. The precise meaning of the error message depends on
the make/model of the computer and/or the motherboard (if not an OEM
machine like HP, Compaq, IBM, etc.). If the computer is freezing at
that point, you have hardware failure. Either contact the OEM tech
support if you have that sort of machine or take the machine to a good
professional. You need to get that sorted out before messing around
with Windows at this point.
I have been finding the above error message on my computer for
about a week
now. The computer freezes and this error appears in a DOS screem.
It also says "1762 configuration change has occured".
I have found out that this is an RPC error "Name serivce
unavailable". I have also notice that when the computer starts I
nolonger have the screen that requests you to click on your name
in a box befor opening into windows. It would sounc like this is
related. I am on a home computer [IBM intellistation] running
Windows XP. Can anyone help?
