Ever since I installed the Service Pack 2, my firewall (not the XP
firewall, but an independent one) takes a really long time to load,
appoximately 30 seconds. This is very odd.

I noticed that the service pack had some sort of security center that
indicated if my firewall and AV was running.

Is there anything in the service pack that would have changed the way
my firewall loads when I boot up?

Few things...

SP2 has its own firewall, which is enabled by default. Running two firewalls
is not recommended and may lead to unpredictable results. Disable the native
SP2 firewall or uninstall your "independent one".

Check (firewall) publishers site for updates.

Additionally, you could try the following...

Clean Windows Startup and hidden Startup:

Spyware/Virus Removal and Prevention:

(Links to online virus scans on the same page)

Clean Temporary Internet Files, Cookies and other temporary files:

Check for errors and defragment hard drive:

Hope this helps!

I prefer to use the independent firewall. where do I turn off the
firewall installed in the SP2? I have a Security Center icon on my
control panel, and it only lists my ZoneAlarm. I had the MS default
firewall disabled. Are you saying that another firewall was installed
from the service pack?
