POST boot problems?

Hi Folks,

Got an issue and would appreciate any info that may help resolve it.
Scenario is thus;

Bought some new SDRAM 256mb form internet. Tried to install into DIMM
slot in Mobo, (have 3), and PC would not boot or recognise new mem
(had it tested and was defective). After removing said offending item
from DIMM slot tried to boot with previous mem and have had
intermittent initilisation problems. The POST boot elicits 1 long 2
short beeps and the monitor failed to activate. Those beep codes
apparently indicate a graph card problem but I didn't even touch it!!
the only way I have been ablew to have it work correctly is by re-
seating mem and powering up hoping for best. Also last night machine
just flashed black screen and eventually just crashed and reset to no
boot status. Machine was fine b4 trying to install mem.

Any ideas?

Spec

384mb RAM
Lucky Star K&VAT mobo
nVidia TNT graph card

Compaq V70 monitor.

Cheers

unplug the system
pull the graphic card and memory and clean slots and reseat everything
reset your CMOS via the jumper
attempt boot
