I got a message on my computer this morning from Windows Defender asking me
what to do about a suspicious file named Settings Modifier:
Win32/PossibleHostsFileHijack. This was identified as under the directory
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. I responded to Windows Defender to
Clean the file which it did. However, when I now start my Microsoft Outllook
2007 with Microsoft CRM 3.0 added in I get the message that "An error
occurred loading Microsoft CRM functionality. Try restarting Outlook."

This is another or should I say an actual Pcbutts hit. This fake MVP does not let
up. Avoid his links at all costs. You need to reformat your computer to get rid of
it (the only way) When you used that program it altered you hosts file among other
things and thus your issue.

You may want to check out this link before you go to all the trouble of
reformatting your drive. While it may turn out that is the only way to
get rid of the culprit I've found that it most cases such drastic
measures are not necessary.

your fault since you both probably do not know the history. The OP has already
posted in another forum and the issue is completely different from what you both
understand it to be. Your answers were both correct if that is all that was involved
from what the OP posted. Any posts from Pcbutts should never be opened (links inside

I've kill filed PCbutts and most of his aliases a long time ago. Yes you
are correct. I didn't see the rest of the discussion. I usually just
monitor this group and I'm familar with your sig and you usually give
solid advice. Considering that, I was mildly surprised by your
suggestion. If the other part of the discussion covered the less
destructive options and they were unsuccessful then you are probably right.

I have a tech support guy that insist that if you contract a virus or
trojan the ONLY way to be sure that the system isn't compromised is to
reformat and reinstall. Not really sure I agree with that but you would
in fact be sure that the system was clean
