I have a co-worker who is getting me to look at his machine, and doing my
research, I am stumped. I am pretty sure that he has a virus in his
computer. He says that Norton Anti-virus runs fine, but when trying to do a
live update, it won't let him.

Anyone got any ideas about which virus this might be??

Many worms modify the HOSTS file so that it redirects many of the security
sites to 127.0.0.1 (your own IP adress).
This *may* be he reason the cant contact live upate. Try loading up
www.symantec.com in the browser, if you cant then thats probably the answer.

Just do a search for HOSTS and remove the bogus entries.
