Hi, THis is the problem;

1. I turn on the lap top
2 I get as far as the blue windows is starting windows is starting up page
and the screen goes black
3. A dialogues box appears at it states

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Run time error
Program.../common files/Symantec shared/security centre/SYMWSC.exe.
This application has requested runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
please contact the applications support team for more infomation

4. Then it restats and this just keeps going on and on

It is a possible virus; I am thousands of miles from home with no recovery
disc. I contacted the computer manufacturers and they advised I use the
recovery cd that came with. I asked if there was another way since I Did not
have the recovery cd with me( could I just buy any odd one)

I was told “tough...â€

I hope someone out there can help
I stand to lose everything

Maybe it is but I have doubts it is a virus.

There are anti virus News Groups specifically for this type of discussion.

microsoft.public.security.virus
alt.comp.virus
alt.comp.anti-virus

And I suggest reposting this in at least; microsoft.public.security.virus

However it also points to a problem with Symantec software so I also suggest contacting
Symantec.

Can you start-up in safemode that is press F8 as the laptop boots, tap the
key before windows start to load.

Hi, Neil, thanks for the reply.
The same thing happens when I start up in safe mode .
Anymore Ideas?
