Possible security problem with Mozilla

Note: you might already be aware of this, but it's unlikely that every
Mozilla user is. Please don't read this if it doesn't apply.

When I first installed Mozilla, before using the program I went
through the preferences and carefully adjusted them. Under
Navigator/Downloads I selected "Open a progress dialog" instead of
"Open the download manager" because I use DLExpert as my download
manager (actually, since getting my fiber optic connection I never
bother with download managers anymore.) As a result, I never really
looked at the module.
This morning, while screwing around with the menu looking for
something, I accidentally opened the Download Manager (Tools/Download
Manager) and was surprised to see a neat and clear list of *every file
I've ever downloaded for saving OR VIEWING with Mozilla*. It was easy
enough to delete each listing from the download manager in groups of
about 20 (trying to select and delete them all at the same time locked
up the program) but there were a lot of them and it took quite a while.
It occured to me that this might be a problem for others who
download material of a compromising nature (which I, fortunately,
don't usually do. ;0)> ) If you're one of those people and don't use
the Mozilla download manager, you might want to open it and take a
look at that list. I wouldn't suggest deleting the entire file from
your hard drive because I don't know if the thing will be recreated or
not and deleting it might cause problems. Instead, you can delete the
listings from within the program.

IMO, if a person isn't using the download manager it shouldn't be
creating this list and storing it in your profile folder as
downloads.rdf. Period. Such a file is along the lines of the index.dat
files that I hate so much.

With Firebird it's not quite so visible, and easier to clean up:
Tools > Options > Privacy > Download History > Clear (with one click)

Heh. I just realized that you won't know what I'm talking about unless
you read it. Guess I need another cup of coffee.
