Possible malware?

While defragging, I noticed my computer spent and extraordinary amount of
time moving a series of files starting with "A005 . . ." and "A006. . . "
(e.g., A0051019.exe) I wanted to see what programs these files were attached
to, so I did a search. Windows said that it could not find them. I had the
switch to look in hidden and system files turn 'on.'

Could these be malware of some sorts? Why can I not find them?

Roy

Roy,

The A005xxx files are residing in System Restore (System Volume
Information). That's why they're hidden.
It is possible, if the system has been infected previously, that there
are malware files located in the restore hierarchy.
BUT, the names of the files means that they are included in restore
points, not that they *are* malware.

Thanks. I am pretty sure that I am 'clean,' but not being able to find these
files bothered. Me. You have cleared up the mystery and I am grateful.
