Possible bug with Excel?

One of my networked computers is having a problem with Excel, the screen half
blanks out like it has gone none responsive but the parts that are still
visable still work. after shutting down Excel the program works for a while.
i'm not having the problem happen to any of the other computers. is this a
problem within the computer? a virus? or a problem such as a corupt file
within Excel itself?

I remember seeing some posts that describe a similar problem. It was something
about part of the window going black (or being able to see through to the
desktop, I don't recall exactly).

The problem wasn't really too common, but the only way to "fix" it was to close
excel and reopen it--like you're doing.

I'd rule out a virus and a corrupt file--but it never hurts to keep your
antivirus program up to date (and scanning) and it never hurts to keep backups.

Maybe some of the posters who had the problem can chime in if they found a
fix????

(IIRC, they were using xl2003--who knows what Service Pack.)

What version of Excel?

I've been having a similar problem with Excel 2007, but I have not found a
fool-proof fix. I suspect it has to do with video display issues, but don't
understand why it only affects this program.

I have an nVidia card, and disabling write-combining (display
properties/advanced/Troubleshoot tab

as well as increasing PCI latency (computer BIOS setting) from 32 to 128 has
seemed to help a bit; but I still occasionally get screen corruption.
