Is it possible to change positive to negative balances
through formatting? I have around 3000 cells that need to
be changed to negative from positive.

Try multiplying by -1 in the next column and then Copy and Paste Special
Values back to first column.

set a format to #,##0.00;#,##0.00

but the underlying number is still negative

Hi Mike,
Try using ASAP utiilities by Bastien Mensink at asap-
utilities.com. It is a wonderful addin which has an
abundance(over 300)of useful functions, one of which will
automatically change postive to negative, and vice versa.

Is there a way to do that to the masses?

Enter -1 in a cell. Copy this cell.

Select your range of negative numbers and Paste Special>Multiply>OK>Esc.

Delete the cell with -1
