Hey Friends!

How can I check the port's status (opened or closed) from
my system is there any special command that I have to use?
If there is a command then with the same command can we
check this in side a network and out of the network I mean
port status on workstation inside of network and in
personal computer with dialup. How can I close or open
ports from my computer.

use the "netstat" command in a command prompt, do the /?
switch to check exactly what you want.

You need a firewall or router to block ports.

To see what ports are open to the internet, use a tool like
Shieldsup at www.grc.com

Closing ports is difficult, to do it you have to shutdown the process that
is using it. Sometimes this is not possible as the PC needs the process
running.

The best way to stop access to ports is to run a firewall.

XP has a builtin one.
To enable it, right click My Network Places and select Properties
Right click the connection and select properties
On the advanced tab check to box to enable the firewall
