I wanted to know if when you use the Remote Desktop software with XP do you need to open a certian port on a router to connect to it. Also, does remote desktop support connection to a computer over the internet like from a raw ip address? Thank you

Yes, direct IP-to-IP addressing is supported over the public internet.
