port forwarding

Hi ok so I've got an Edimax AR7024g wireless router. Ive been o
portforward.com and they have every modem except mine it seems!

Its up and running but the only problem is whilst trying to downloa
using various dload apps or transferring files through msn messenge
it basically wont or does so v v slowly. I'm aware I need to forwar
ports but not sure how. I've read the guides it seems my router i
different

Under the port forarding tab in my router conifg there is an entry bo
for the ports but the maximum range is 20

So ive been told to enable DMZ. what is this? Im still no closer t
being able to dload properly

anyone help please

You would be better off purchasing a better router. heh

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but you shouldn't have to forward
ports for transferring files in the Messenger window. Although I'm not
familar with the router you speak of, I would imagine there is an
"application & gaming" tab ( In Linksys brand ) where you forward the
correct ports you need. The program your using (probaly some type of p2p)
will have the info on ports you need to open up.

The maximum range is not 20. The maximum number of ports you can forward is
20 for that router. I dont think you would need more than that many.
Download the manual for your router from the manufacturer web site and get
to know your router. Port forwarding on that router is pretty basis and
simular to the others that are mention on the site you refer to.

There are boxes to enter the port information that you want to forward.


Enter the range of the port that you want to forward for example, public
port start 80, public port end 80, priviate port 80 select the protocol tcp
or udp, tcp in this example and the ip address of the machine that you are
forwarding to. It can't be any simpler.
