Port 445 Blocked, SMB Doesn't Work

I'm trying to manage computers remotely from the server in my network but I
keep getting various errors about this and that (all SMB related). I can ping
the hostname of the machines I'm trying to connect to but neither
\\computername\share nor \\ip_address\share works. I did a port scan against
the computers I'm trying to connect to and port 445 is bocked (SMB port).
This seems to be my problem.

The computers don't have firewalls installed, there are no routers or other
network devices between the server and the client, and there are no supicious
LSPs at work on the client machines. What's blocking port 445? Is there a
program I can use to do a cross between traceroute and a port scan so I can
see at which point the port gets blocked?

Make sure that those computers have file and print sharing installed for tcp/ip and
that the server service is running. If file and print sharing is installed and
enabled when you run netstat -an on a computer it will show ports 139 and 445
listening. --- Steve
