PopUp Message: Multiple media - what do you want to do?

I have a Toshiba M32-s329 laptop with an external usb hd and xp home. While I
am using the computer,a popup window intermittently comes up over and over
again something to the effect >>>this device has multiple types of media.
what do you want Windows to do? This interfers with what I am doing and I see
no way to turn it off. Also, what may be starting this is I also see Autoplay
window pop up in the corner of the screen as I get this message? Any
suggestions on how to stop this?

What i would do is install Pop up Stopper which protects me of po ups
