POP3 <> Server.

A question re. deletion of messages on a POP3 server, in this case - gmail.

My Account setting for 'Delivery' is 'Leave a copy of message on server' =
NOT checked. I assume messages to be not left on the server.

But I discovered (via gmail's webmail) that there are still thousands of
messages still in the inbox up to the present!
ie. they have not been deleted by Outlook, the same as if I do have the
above Delivery setting checked.
Is this a bug or... ?

What is the best combination of Delivery options to check?

Its most likely not Outlook (if it is try a detect/repair). Gmail doesn't
act like a normal POP server. You will need to log in to www.gmail.com and
adjust your Pop/Forwarding Settings to delete your e-mail.

So, in your Gmail account, what did you configure as the action taken
when a message is retrieved when using POP? Maybe you left Gmail
configured to leave it in the Inbox. Gmail does NOT comply with RFC
standards for POP. Gmail's "POP" should be called gPOP.
