pop-up stopper freezes PC

Hi
I have used The Proxomitron for a long time as a pop-up stopper. But
after installing IE6 the computer acts odd.
Now and then the PC freezes. The only way to recover is to shut down
the PC.
It took some time to discover that webbrowsing using only IE did not
freeze the PC.
But I wanted a pop-up stopper so I downloaded Avant. The same thing
happens.
More or less at random the PC locks up.
Is it possible to revert back to IE5 without loosing Outlook Express?
Or is there some other way to get IE cooperate with Avant or The
Proxomitron?
I am running ME and AFAIK I have the latest drivers on my machine.

I was wrong. IE on its own freezes at random.
