POP up On exe

Silly me.. I hit a link in an email from a "friend" which
set off a whold bunch of popup windows, now when I start
Internet Explorer, I get the application to open and I
also get a popup window which I do not care to see and
do not ned. How do I get this to stop happening?? I
deleted cookies & files,cleared history & it still keeps
happening. anu suggestions??
