Please Help: I have taken in a new unwanted lodger..."SYS_PROTECT" no matter
what I do to try and get rid of it it comes back !! Add Remove Programs takes
it out and it reprograms itself. I have Norton antivirus,PoP Up prevention
etc. This is not just a minor irritant,it takes a dozen clicks to get rid of
the screens that come up!! This is a major pain in the arse...Please some
ideas..Thanks

Try turning off "System Restrore". then remove using Add/Remove Programs.
Then run a spyware/adware detector (Spybot Search and Destroy, AdAware) and
let it eliminate what they find. Reboot.

That's what you get for relying on Symantec products to protect your
system, as they are just malware disguised as security products too!

Thanks Fitz: I forgot about system restore! However the problem is still
rearing it's ugly head,I did what you suggested. Think of anything else
without getting too complicated?

It's funny you should mention that about Symantec. I just ran the
CleanDisabledMSConfigEntries script from Kelly's website.

I thought it was odd that NAV w/script blocking turned on didn't try to
block it when I ran it.

So I clicked through the entire script removing the entries, THEN NAV
blocked it. I gave it permission to run one time. And the next box to click
in the script was the last one at the end !!

You need more than just Norton AV to keep a system clean of malware.
For one thing that product deals only with viral malware and doesn't
address all the other nasties out there. A combination of programs run
in safe mode regularly is needed. See these links:
