Pop-up Ads in Window's Messenger

Help! I want to get rid of Window's Messenger because I
am being bombarded with commercial pop-up ads from sites
wanting to sell software to prevent the ads, nor do I use
Window's Messenger. From Outlook Express/Tools/Windows
Messenger/Options/Preferences, I have deselected
EVERYTHING and clicked OK. I still get the ads. The next
thing that has been recommended is editing the registry
and I really don't like messing with the registry. Can
anyone help me? Jane :(

If you're getting Messaging Service ads, these are *not* from MS (windows)
Messenger. The messaging service isn't for chatting, it's to receive
messages from a system admin. Uninstalling or disabling MS Messenger will
in no way affect these ads.

Go into control panel, administrative tools, and locate the Services tool.
Now in the list in the right-hand pane, locate the Messenger service, right
click on it and choose Properties. Set the Startup type to either Manual
or Disabled, Stop the service, and click Apply. Choose OK back to the
desktop.

Now, the service is stopped and will not restart with Windows.

Thanks Sharjeel for helping. I didn't know there were two
messengers. I have disabled the correct one now. Thanks
again. Jane :)

FIND OUT, LET ME KNOW.
