pop-server could not be found

I have followed the email set up instructions from my internet provider and I
keep coming up with the error
The host 'pop-server could not be found.
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11003, Error
Number: 0x800CCC0D.
I have gone over the setup repeatedly, and the support from roadrunner told
me to use outlook. Which I dont have office installed at this time.
Any input would be great.
Thank you.

All Vista WM and WLM problems have been resolved to:
Following mail provider setup instructions precisely or Virus checking
interference.
so...
Go back to your e-mail provider's mail setup instructions (roadrunner, you
said) and pay particular attention to the name of the outgoing server. I
should be a server name. (3 or 4 names, or so, with dots between them).
Also make sure the outgoing port number is right.
And shut down you virus checking s/w. If it still doesn't work, completely
remove it. If that doesn't work, go the site of your virus checking s/w and
find the utility they will remove all remnants of the checker.

I can access my Roadrunner account just fine in Windows Mail, Thunderbird,
and Windows Live Mail.

"pop-server" is only part of the email server name. Apparently you haven't
entered the correct server name.

I am a former Adelphia customer, and we use
pop-server.roadrunner.com
smtp-server.roadrunner.com

Most regular Roadrunner customers use
pop-server.xxx.rr.com
smtp-server.xxx.rr.com

where xxx is your region of the country.

'pop-server is not a valid server name. You might check here to see if
Roadrunner put their better people to writing instructions instead of
answering the phone:

I did enter the whole information: (e-mail address removed). I was just
shortening it in the message for the error. sorry.

FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS AND IT SHOULD WORK. OUTLOOK COMES WITH WHICHEVER
SOFTWARE IS ON THE COMPUTER WHETHER IT BE 98,XP,VISTA, ETC... I DO NOT
UNDERSTAND WHAT VERSION OF "OFFICE" YOU DO NOT HAVE INSTALLED.

pop-server.satx.rr.com is the POP3
smtp-server.satx.rr.com is the SMTP

you will do it this way and make it whatever your city and state is. EX:
pop-server.nyc.rr.com is the POP3
smtp-server.nyc.rr.com is the SMTP

HERE IS A MORE CLEAR EXAMPLE AND FOLLOW IT ACCORDINGLY. YOUR PROBLEM WILL BE
RESOLVED. ANOTHER SURE FIRE WAY IT WILL BE RESOLVED IS KEEP CALLING THE ISP
THAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR AND GET A TIER 3 TECHNICIAN:

EXAMPLE OF HOW TO ENTER THE SMTP IN WINDOWS MAIL:

FIRST GO TO ADD ACCOUNT AND THEN....

you will CHANGE the city and/or state to yours:

EX:

pop-server.____________.rr.com is the POP3 (INCOMING MAIL)
smtp-server.___________.rr.com is the SMTP (OUTGOING MAIL)
