using gigabyte motherboard and IDE ATA133 drives with promise drivers
The fault can effect any sound startup, games playing cds et
Anybody else had this problem

Have you installed XP drivers for whatever sound device you are using??

Yes Tryed new drivers for avance 97/realtek also for ata133 which i had to install as xp did not find my harddrive when installing

Are you using a Maxtor Ultra ATA 100/133 PCI adaptor card?? If so and you
are also using the latest Maxtor driver, then try turning off "pass
flush-drive-cache commands" in Device Manager/IDE controller properties. It
solved a similar problem for me.
