Poor signal on Belkin notebook adapter

Dave

I'm using a Belkin router, with Belkin adapters for a
wireless connection. The router is model F5D6231-4, the
adapter (for a laptop) is F5D6020. I'm using a Toshiba
Satellite A115-S129. When I get the adapter installed, I
get a very poor and inconsistent signal strength, even if
I'm next to the router. However, if I use a Belkin USB
adapter (F5D6050), my signal strenth is excellent. Is
there something in XP that might not be set up right or
is this probably a compatibility issue? I've downloaded
all the latest drivers for the adapters and the router.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

There might be some adapter configuration issues. If your Toshiba
uses the Intel wired/wireless adapter, be sure to disable the adapter
bonding feature.

Remember that the laptop likely has its antennas in a horizontal
plane, twist the AP/Router antennas so that one points parallel to the
floor, the other straight up.

Note too that even small movements of your laptop may make a
significant difference in signal strength. The adavantage of the USB
adapter is that its antenna and physical positioning can be more
easily adjusted. Do the same by re-orienting your laptop.

Good suggestions, but still didn't work. The signal
strength got as high as 60% but also completely dropped
out again.

Thanks anyway.
