Poor performance of documents with checkboxes

hi,
I've taken a word doc and added a bunch of form field checkboxes for the
Yes/NO questions.
But the document doubles in size and opens very slowly now.
Is there a better way to permit checkboxes in word documents?

Are you sure you used checkboxes from the Forms toolbar (which require the
document to be protected for forms) and not the ones from the Control
Toolbox (which are ActiveX controls)? I would expect a moderate to severe
performance hit from the ActiveX controls, but not from the Forms ones.
