Ponderous Word 2003

Ever since downloading the last update, response time with all Word functions
can best be described as ponderous. Rather than just close Word now, I first
minimize it, then 'close' to keep my screen from freezing up for 30 seconds
or so. Similarly boot up time takes forever, then a virus scan starts - any
ideas or suggestions, please - this performance is unacceptable.

If you are using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the Office
Plugin that comes with it (but don't disable Norton AutoProtect). See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office programs
with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more information.

I'll try disabling the plug-in. Note 2 things: the start-up time of Word is
very, very long - before the virus scan starts; and second, most times when I
shut Word down the program freezes up - I get the 'program not responding'
message. It's as though it were performing tons and tons of overhead
functions to shut down and gets lost along the way. Should I contemplate
deleting the software and re-loading it?
