Every now and then my pointer will move either to the top or to the bottom
instantly without me doing anything. Its a pain when draging items and
playing Halo. Anyone know how to solve it?

Open Mouse Properties...
Start | Run | Type: main.cpl | Click OK |
Pointer Options tab | UNCheck: Automatically move pointer to the default
button in a dialog box | Click Apply | Click OK

Automatically move pointer to the default button in a dialog box
[[Specifies whether the mouse pointer snaps to the default button (such as
OK or Apply) in dialog boxes. In some programs, Snap To may cause the
pointer to automatically move to the center of the dialog box rather than to
the default button.]]

Hope this helps. Let us know.

I wish that would help, but thats not the problem. It goes to either the top
or the bottom instantly when im not moving it, even when im not at a dialog
box. I had that option off for a few days and it did not help. It also
happened to my last mouse, so its the software.

If you have 3rd party software for your mouse, check in that program.
