Pls Help synch with MS Exchange server b4 I screw things up

TJ

I'm using :
Outlook 2002
Exchange server (MSES) 2000
PC#1: set up; doing fine
PC#2: need to set up Outlook and synch with MSES w/o screwing up MSES
or PC#1

I'm trying to synch 2 separate computers...eg email, contacts,
calendar, tasks...

Currently have everything working well on pc#1....now need to set up
on #2

I'm unclear as to the synch process w/ MSES..

On PC #2 have set set up folders exactly like #1..

Should I do PST export from 1 and import to #2? then synch with MSES?

Or not import, and just synch with MSES...(I don't want to delete my
files on MSES by syching with pc#2)

Are there commands I can use to set up rules for this transfer (eg I'm
used to MS Active Synch with Pocket PC)

Thanks in advance for your help,

TJ

Sync would never delete the file just by adding an EX profile and enabling
offline use. You would have to delete the file while offline for that to
happen.

I'm assuming here that 1) PC#2's Outlook is already properly configured to
access Exchange and 2) you are using a different account on PC#2. If 1) is
not true, please install and configure Outlook on PC#2 so that it can access
Exchange. If 2) is not true (i.e., you're going to use the same Exchange
mailbox on both PCs) then there's nothing to do. Since Exchange contains
all your messages, you should see them no matter what PC you log into, as
long as that PC accesses the same mailbox on Exchange and if you sync your
PDA to one, it will contain the same information as Exchange and, hence,
both PCs. If you have a PST as your default delivery location, then change
it. Make Exchange the default delivery location to that all messages stay
on the Exchange server and can be viewed from any PC attached to the
Exchange server.

If 2) is true (i.e., PC#2 connects to a different Exchange mailbox), there
are better ways to share information than by syncing through a PDA.
Exchange is designed to let multiple people share Calendars and other
information. Use Exchange to share into, rather than the PDA.

If none of this makes sense, please be more explicit in what you're trying
to accomplish.

Thanks for your replies....

Guess I should have indicated that I work in Outlook in OFFLINE
mode...do this b/c (1) runs faster OFF than ONline (2) can't work
online at home away from server....

I have to send pc#1 back to company for repairs...in doing so I
deleted all my Outlook info from #1 and did NOT synch w/ server..Am
now exclusively using pc#2 (which is working ok) in OFFLINE mode and
synching w/ server every minute.

Any ideas/tips on what to do when pc#1 returns in terms of getting it
reconnected w/ server w/o deleting my info on the server? When it
returns, it will have had complete reinstall of Win xp tablet OS...and
Outlook (and everything else for that matter...I imagine it'll be like
setting up another new computer...needing initial Off/Online sync
while on server.

When I receive pc#1 back, is there a way to transfer all my setiings,
folders from the server. Perhaps this is done automatically? When
setting up pc#2 yesterday, I manually entered in all my folders so the
email, contact, calendar, task files would map correctly, which they
did.

THANKS,

TJ

When you create the profile on PC#1 when you get it back, if you enable
syncing, you'll automatically get everything on the server.

I don't understand why you think you needed to create your folders manually
on PC#2. If your default delivery location is Exchange, that's where the
folders are kept and all folders on the server will be created automatically
on the client when you sync.
