Now i am having this strange problem with my shiny new (xmas present) dvd
drive......

its an 'aopen 16x dvd+ r/rw dual layer thingy m'bob and my brother has
recently updated the bios on it becuase it kept failing while burn audio cds,
bios was ao5 now a06.
NOW.... the eject button on the drive doesn't work(can only eject through
drive properties!) and can only close the drive by pushing it closed! and
even weirder is the fact that at random times the drive will just open all by
itself!!!! 'spooky huh??' tis most alarming too!!

please can anyone help?????????

but also just to add insult to injury it wont burn dvds or cds! just fails
again as it always did!!!

The answer is obvious (I'm surprised you couldn't figure it out) - the drive
is defective. You will need return it for a replacement or refund (well the
person who bought it for you will).

two things which may help..1 check to make sure the bios update was
specifically for your motherboard..2 depending on your operating system, you
may need to go to the manufactures web site and download the most current
driver and any patch you find...good luck

1) DVD burners do *NOT* require drivers - firmware updates, maybe, but
that is *NOT* the same as a driver.
2) A BIOS update is pointless - you're risking screwing up a perfectly
good system for no reason at all.

The tray mechanism is shot - the unit needs to be replaced. You're giving
him false hope.

thank u miss tick, i thought it was a faulty drive but i jus wanted 1 2nd
opinion before i went 2 my bro, just didn't wanna seem ungrateful!!

You're welcome. I'm sure your brother will understand - after all, these
things happen, it's not your fault and it's not his. Just pray he's still
got the receipt! ;o)
