Sorry Debbie, but from this description I'm unable to determine what the
problem may be mainly because I have no idea with type of protection system
you're using. Could you describe how you protected your web?

Debbie. Did you say you did this locally? If so then that won't affect
your "live" site. You would need to open the live site in FrontPage and
change the permissions there.

If you "downloaded" it (published it down) then you did it locally. You
need to open the Live web in FrontPage and do it there.

Dear Newsgroupers,

You all seem to be so knowledgeable I'm really envious!! Please could
someone help me with my problem.
I new nothing about making my own web site when I started a couple of
weeks ago. I just cranked up ms FrontPage and had a dabble with great
success I might add. Over the space of a few days I had built a site with
about 20 pages with hyperlinks and photos etc all published and working.
Then I decided to put a user name and password in to regulate who could
browse my site, I even managed that!! Then a few days ago I decided to add
another user name, I saw a page that was something to do with a "Sub Web"
(what ever that is), but I think I must have tinkered with the settings
because now my user name and password screen has gone and I cannot download
my web site from my server I cannot get back to the user name and password
pages (I think they are on the server) to find out what's wrong. I have
reset my site at the server end and I have also rang my providers tech help
and they do not have a clue what I'm talking about. Does anybody know what
I've done and how to rectify it???????

Dear Mike thank you for your reply,

This is what I did......
I downloaded my site from the server, then I clicked on (server) them
(permission) from FP and if a can remember, then (settings) then (use
unique permissions) then (users) then (only registered users may have browse
access) then I added 3 user names and passwords. All that worked fine for a
few days until I added a new user, I saw a option for (Sub Web) and I think
I must of messed with it.

Then you need to contact your ISP and have them reset the permissions on the
site.

Dear David,
In FP help it told me how to protect my site as previously explained. I
first downloaded my site, then clicked on (server) etc so I suppose I did it
live.

window that says (Documents in this folder are not available)

She may not have David, you can publish down as a safe guard while on the
live server, then set the Server permissions.

Thak you all for your efforts!!!
Have now sorted my problem. I cleared my internet history and cookies and
that solved it. I can now download my site from the server into FP and go
into permisions once again to set it up.
