PLEASE need real HELP . Cannot get msi.exe programs to work

T

Tony D

I may have deleted the windows installer. I have
downloaded several programs that are msi.exe. I get a
message pop up that says to contact the vendor to make
sure it is a valid window installer package. They are.
Any step by step instructions to fix this ( I am a real
novice)? BTW, the msi.exe programs I am trying to get are
valid Window Installer programs.

Also get a pop up that says S32EVNT1.LL AND SYMENT.SYS
DO NOT MATCH. I am at a loss with that one too.

Any help will sure be very much appreciated. Please email
me at (e-mail address removed) It actually took me 3 hours
just to find this newsgroup. That tells you how computer
ignorant I am.

Thanks!

This appears to be an issue with Norton Anti-Virus as motioned in this
Symantec Knowledge Base article copied below:
Error: "S32EVNT1.DLL and SYMEVNT.386 do not match" after upgrading

Situation
You are upgrading your Windows NT computers to Norton AntiVirus for Windows
NT (NAVNT) version 5, or NAV CE version 7.x, and are installing over NAVNT,
version 2. Upon restart, you see the error message, "S32EVNT1.DLL and
SYMEVNT.386 do not match."
Solution
This can happen when an older version of a Symantec file is on your system.
There are two ways to fix this problem:

Delete a file
1. Search for the file Symevnt.386 on all local drives, and delete all
occurrences of it.
2. Restart the computer.

Run a file
1. Locate the file Sevinst.exe, which is normally in the folder C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Symantec shared, and double-click it.
2. Click OK when installed.
