My computer(Windows XP Home Edition-Gateway desk top) crashed about a week
ago. The first time it was returned to me, it would not do anything. The
second time, a bit better although they left me NOTHING.The Geek
Squad...never again.... Supposedly a corrupt registry file.(What is registry
cleaner for? I always used that)

My word files, favorites, photos were backed up(or so they told me) and put
onto this CD(which In now notice after the second time I returned the
computer and the CD they wrote DVD on it.

I can't get my computer to read it, although it will show up on "THE
GEEKS'" computers. I've read through all of the posts remotely similar to my
problem, but nothing works. I know, I should have backed up my files a long
time ago, but I didn't and the manuscript I've been editing of my 82 father's
book is supposed to be on this disk.

My computer will recognize a music CD I put in and play it, but the one I
need. Nope.

I've gotten just about everything else back onto the computer, but the most
important thing I'm unable to figure out. When I put the CD in it says
"Please Insert Disk Into Drive D" and of course it's already IN there.

I'd appreciate any help whatsoever. I am now officially broke as far as
paying to repair this computer:-)

If it is data files put on to a DVD disc, then it can only be read
in a computer equipped with a DVD player/writer.

Don't use registry cleaners!! Especially if you're not an advanced user,
there are programs which can clean unused system files (like the application
"total uninstall 3" which watches while a program installs so if you
uninstall later it will remove everything which that program installed on the
computer).

Registry cleaners do help remove junk entries but if you don't know what
they do and you remove them, then you know what happens after that. Most
'junk' registry entries are harmless and use little harddrive space so its
better to leave them alone.

Ask your techsquad to break up the DVD to multiple CD's, or ask someone you
know to do it (if you paid them for a recovery service then you should demand
that you get that service in a format you can use...don't let them say no and
keep the DVD too.)
