Im trying to read a floppy diskete and every time when i click on
floppy drive i get the dialog box with the exact text mentioned in the
title of this message.Checked the connections, the ribon cable and
connectors behind floppy drive and on motherbord.Everything seems
ok.Bios settings seems ok as well.Read /write feature of floppy drive
is enabled.First boot device is set to Floppy drive.I ve read a lot of
posts and sugestions about this problem and couldn't make to read the
floppy disk. They say somewhere that the reason is a fault of win XP
My machine is win xp pro+sp2 bundled with a lot of hot fixes and
patches
after the SP2 pack release.I would like to find some link where to
download any hotfix or patch about this problem.I hope Microsoft

Isn't this message the result of a hardware failure? The message means that
the drive can't recognize the floppy, and the most likely reason is that the
floppy is broken.

If the BIOS allows it, disable the floppy, exit BIOS and let PC boot,
reboot, reenter BIOS and enable the floppy, exit BIOS and let PC boot.

Can you read floppies now?

Yes? Great; problem solved.

No? Invest $10 in a new floppy drive at the local computer store.

Windows XP does not recognize some pre-formatted floppies. Perhaps this is
your problem:

Floppy Disk is Not Accessible, Not Formatted, or Not Recognized by Windows

Don
Thanks for all replies.I disabled/shutdown and then rebooted went to
bios settings enabled read write. The same message.Nothing changed.I
went and bought a Internal floppy drive Sony model MPF 920 made on may
2005 in China.Installed the floppy drive(hardware) and i had the same
error.Please insert......A/.
The floppy drive that i bought didn't have warranty card, neither floppy
diskete
with driver.Well it was supposed to be a hardware that is supported
from windows xp floppy driver controller(c/Windows/system32/fdc.sys)
I tried going to device manager e uninstalled floppy drive
controller.Rebooted, letting windows to detect itself the new hardware
and reinstall the floppy controller.I had again a message that i didnt
like it.
It turned out to be that sony floppy drive model MPF 920 is not in
HCL(hardware compatibility list of microsoft and didnt pas the logo
testing, hardware compatibility test.Reinstalling the floppy controller
again was not reccommended. The fdc driver in windows/system32 is
strangely not digitally signed. So the floppy controller and the
hardware are incompatible.Windows xp SP2 dont like the new floppy
drive. The moral of the story:
Never buy any hardware without checking first product models and
verifying the product/model of your choice whether has passed microsoft
compatibility test
I know micrososft has a site(HCL) where are listed all products that
has passed testing. I send a email to sony suport telling all the
story. They asked me some info about the store where i bought and the
warranty.Waiting for theirs email for a driver.
