ok new updat
installing from floppies, goes to cd, copying file
setup cannot copy the following files from the c

clspack.ex
javacypt.dl
javaperm.hl
javaprxy.dl
javart.dl
javasec.hl
jdbgmgr.ex
jview.ex
msawt.dl
msjava.dl
msjdbc10.dl
nt5java.in
vmhelper.dl
wjview.ex
dx3j.dl
jit.dl

i have to hit escape to skip those files. the pc then reboots, and resumes setup in GUI
i then got this error

An error has been encountered the prevents Setup. One of the components that Windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. A component's file does not match the verification information present in the component's manifest

it also gave me a pop up window with this in it
Error: SXS.DLL: Syntax error in the manifest or policy file "D:\i386\asms\70100\msft\windows\mswincrt.man" on line 4. Error: Installation Failed: D:\i386\asms. Error Message: A components file does not match the verification information present in the component manifest

So i restarted, booting from hard drive. setup restarted
i got through installing devices, installing network, completing installation, but it froze on installing start menu items

so i restarted, booting from hard drive, setup restarted
this time it got through installing devices, installing network, completing installation, and registering components, but froze during saving settings

so i restarted, booting from the hard drive, and got nothing but a black screen, multiple times
if i boot from the cd, it wants to copy all of the files again, essentially unnecessarily starting the entire process over.

i seriously doubt this is a compatibility issue, as i ran xp pro for months before all of this happened
i also seriously doubt this is a bios issue, since everything is recognized and it gets that far.

any suggestions?
TI

A "Manifest Parse Error" is indicative of a bad CD. Use the
original Windows XP installation CD. If you are using it,
then request a replacement.
