Please Help!

When I turn on my computer and get to the desktop screen
or when I run certain applications, I get this message:

16 bit Windows Subsystem
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not
suitable for running MS_DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. CHoose 'CLose' to terminate the
application. It has two buttons below that say Close or
Ignore. I run XP and have never seen this message before.
Can someone please help me get rid of this message
without harm. I searched for it in the Windows\System32
folder and can't find it. Would appreciate any help you
may give...thanx
