I am using Windows Movie Maker to make videos. When I made a video I have to
convert it to a AVI File so that my Site Builder (Web.com) can accept the
download. They don't accept WMV files.
So I purchased a Movavi program that lets me convert it. But it takes my 10
minute, 147Mb WMV file and makes it a 1.2Gb AVI file. This cause uploads and
downloads to take many hours.
My Question : How do I make my original WMV file smaller, so that the
original source is smaller to start with when I convert with Movavi??

============================
The conversion is not required...you
can save as DV-AVI in Movie Maker.
As for file size...maybe smaller projects
would be the answer.

To save as an .avi movie file...
(and several other options)
Type...Ctrl+P to open the Save Movie Wizard /
Choose...My Computer /
Next /
Enter a Name and a Save Location /
Next /
Show More Choices /
Other Settings /
Open the drop window and choose...DV-AVI /
Next /
Wait while the movie is saved /
Finish...

John is correct, of course, but you will still have a large file.
You "can" make the WMV any size, within reason, that you want but you may
not be happy with the quality.

When in the save movie wizard and to the movie setting screen:
Make sure you see all choices by clicking "Show more choices..." if
necessary.
Now click the radio button next to best fit to file size and enter the size
you want to use.
Finish the wizard and you will have a video of that size.

As I said you may not, and probably will not, like the quality you end up
with but you didn't ask that. :)

John,

You keep responding with the same suggestion that doesn't work. Your stock
answer is totally ineffective.

It would be nice of someone found a solution to this problem. The last time
it happened on my laptop I had to reload the entire operating system to fix
the issue. Now once again, on a another PC, I am having exactly the same
issue.

What a damn shame that nobody has an answer to the "unspecified error" when
importing videos into the collections. Could be time for me to break down and
buy something else like Adobe Pinnacle.

Yeah! Well pardon me for living.

What are you responding to?

When you have a question...please begin
a new thread and include the exact issues
you are having. Piggybacking on someone
elses thread and adding nothing but negative
comments doesn't help anyone.

Exactly what problem are you referring to?
This thread had absolutely nothing at all to do with any unspecified error.
BTW John's "Stock Answers" are there for a reason, because in most cases
they DO work.

John, once again you solved my problem. I didn't know I could save as a AVI
from WMV. I guess I bought that Movavi program for nothing.
Also, just so you know, I found where I can decrease the file size in WMM,
it is in the same frame as the "Other Settings" text; and it doesn't affect
the picture quakity too much.
You have been a great help to me in the past and i really appreciate you
time in assisting me this time. Best Regards, George
