Hi

Every time I start up my computer windows installer begins trying to install
'PhotoGallery.msi'. It then asks me to put in a disk to complete
installation. I have no disk and have not tried to install anything. I have
no idea what this PhotoGallery is, and cannot find any file containing it.
How do I stop windows installer from doing this all the time?

Thanks

It sounds as though someone may have tried to install that program from
a disk while you were away from the machine. Start by clicking 'Start ...
All Programs ... Startup' and make sure that no shortcut labelled
'PhotoGallery' (or anything like it) lives there. If you find such a thing,
delete it. Next, click 'Start ... Search .. All Files & Folders' and key in
'PhotoGallery.msi' as the search string. When ('if') Search finds the file
in question, delete it, and then restart Wndows to see whether the problem
has been cured.

If the problem still persists after that, you may find that there's an
entry in the Registry in either
'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run' or
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run' that's
causing it. Editing the Registry (using 'regedit' in the 'Start ... Run'
menu) can be a bit hazardous unless you've done some background reading and
have an idea what you're looking at. If you're not sure of your ground, get
local help with that (and make sure that it's safe, reliable help). Removal
of the offending entry in one, other or both of those Keys should rid you of
the problem.

Hope this helps.
